I have what some professional gardener’s may call a “brown thumb”. When it comes to designing bouquets or picking the most beautiful flowers for our tiny garden, I have a gift – an “eye” for color and aesthetic. However, I cannot seem to keep my plants alive. Mr. GGC is the green thumb – he knows how to plant and tend to our succulents, Black-eyed Susan, and indoor spider plants. Being an environmentalist (a “greenie” as we like to call it), I think there is something really beautiful and calming about bringing the outdoors inside of the home. Many of my decorative pieces are fake – and though they are pleasing to the eye – we are missing out on two very important factors: scent and air purification. So what are the best, fool-proof indoor plants for the “horticulturally challenged?” Continue reading “7 Low-Maintenance Houseplants”
Mrs. GGC here – raise your hand if you are sick and tired of getting eaten alive by pesky mosquitos every summer? I dread that first muggy night when the bloodthirsty bastards come out to play. Mr. GGC tries to act cute, joking about how they only come for me because I’m oh so sweet. Love you boo, but this is no joking matter! Mosquitos have ruined too many BBQs and outdoor parties for me, and its about time that we stop the madness. I hate bug spray — it stinks, its sticky and it rarely works. Citronella candles? HAH – what a joke. I could walk outside in a turtle neck, high socks and jeans, and I would STILL end up with bites all over me. What am I to do? Look to Mother Nature to help a girl out. Well, Mr. GGC was back for 1 post, and just like that he needs another break. Preface: he’s okay, thank goodness. On Friday, he was involved in a car accident (passenger) – everyone made it out okay, except for the car. He has some whiplash and possibly a small concussion, so no more writing for him for a few days at least. Mamma mia! Life certainly is a crazy ride.
But back to the purpose of this post – reducing waste and keeping your garden healthy through composting. Now, I know what you are probably thinking: composting? That’s a lot of work. That’s gross. I don’t wanna…Though making compost takes some patience, it is actually a simple process that just makes sense! Why throw your vegetable and plant scraps away when you can use them to help your garden grow? Continue reading “DIY Composting for a Healthy Garden”
Hello fellow Greenies, Mr. GGC is back! I’ve finished my first year of law school so I’m back to the blog for the whole summer. I missed writing and Tweeting and I’m happy to be back. Spring is here and it’s time to get outside and get your garden ready. I have a “greenish” thumb but I’m always looking for ways to grow greener, healthier plants.
